DANG, May 4:  UCPN (Maoist) cadres have been using many vehicles to ferry people from villages to the district headquarters for their protests even as they have strictly brought public transportation to a complete halt during the general strike since Sunday.

“We are using the vehicles only to supply rations but not for any other purposes,” Maoist district secretary Subhas Pun said.

Even the tankers supplying water in the areas carried Maoist flags.

Maoist cadres have gathered people from several villages to the district headquarters Ghorahi and Tulsipur areas for demonstrations.

The Maoists in the villages have issued dictates to join the strike. “They have issued dictates to send at least one person from each family in the village for protests,” said a villager who arrived Ghorahi, adding, “Families refusing to join protests have been asked to provide food for at least 10 persons. I chose to join the protests.”

People from Rukum, Rolpa and Salyan districts have been gathered in Ghorahi and Tulsipur. Maoists have run mess at five places for the protestors. Pun said the mess is meant for those who arrived there from neighboring districts.
