According to local student leaders, the clash ensued after some students of grade 12 were found attending grade 11 classes. [break]Police said six students affiliated to Nepal Students´ Union have been arrested.
The police nabbed the students after it received verbal complaints from the Maoists against the accused.
Maoist area in-charge Sharun Batha claimed the clash was politically motivated and pre-planned. But Nepali Congress District President Man Bahadur Nepali declined to comment on the issue.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Homjung Chauhan said the police would conduct an impartial probe into the incident and punish the guilty.
Meanwhile, Maoist cadres thrashed a Nepali Congress cadre on the district police office premises.
Til Bahadur Gharti had reached the police office to discuss the clash between students but Maoist cadres thrashed him. Gharti has sustained injuries to his head, hands and body.
