Maoist lawmaker uses proxy to sit for his SLC exams

RAUTAHAT, March 28: Maoist Constituent Assembly (CA) member from Makawanpur Prem Bahadur Pulami was found using a youth to appear in the ongoing School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams for him.



Sahitya Syangten, 25, of Makwanpur was arrested Wednesday from Judibela Secondary School examination center in Rautahat while sitting for optional mathematics exams for Pulami who was elected to the CA from Makawanpur constituency number 2. [break]



Syangten conceded that he appeared for all seven previous subjects in place of lawmaker Pulami. Controller of SLC examinations Dilli Rimal said both Pulami and Syangten could face up to six-month jail or fine of up to Rs 100,000 or both.



According to Rautahat district police chief SP Thule Rai, a police team first obtained a copy of the original admit card of lawmaker Pulami from District Education Office before reaching the exam center where Syangten was caught. Syangten had pasted his photo in place of Pulami´s on the admit card. Syangten hails from Pulami´s constituency.







Syangten has been taken to Rautahat District Police Office from investigation.



"We will record his statements tomorrow," SP Rai told Republica on Wednesday.



Meanwhile, police on Wednesday arrested Tara Moktan, of Padampokhari village, from Janjyoti Higher Secondary School at Chandranigahpur while appearing in the exam hall in place of his sister Purnima Moktan.



According to District Education Office, police have arrested 21 fake students during this year´s SLC exams.
