According to the Maoist-affiliated Nepal Teachers´ Union, a total of 110 teachers are being trained at present. A member of the union, Shanti Dhakal, said that the training has been conducted because schools in the districts are closed and the purpose of the training is ´self-defense´. [break]
She added that the training has been given also in the light of possibility of their joining the upcoming Maoist protests.
“We have conducted the training as per the instruction of the party´s central leadership,” Dhakal said.
A participant of the training, Tek Bahadur Tiruwa, said that he is taking training as time has come to bring revolutionary changes in educational policy in the country. He said bring does not come to the country if the teachers held just chalks and dusters.
“There are rising cases of attacks on teachers. In such a situation teachers should be able to protect themselves,” Tiruwa said.
