Koirala, who is also a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Goodwill Ambassador, expressed her commitment to help women in dire needs.
"I am truly happy to renew my partnership with UNFPA in my homeland at this crucial time," said Koirala in a press statement issued by UNFPA. She added that the UNFPA's life-saving interventions are needed more than ever.A recent study conducted by UNFPA concluded that more than 2 million women of reproductive age are affected by the quake. Around 126,000 pregnant women are in need of urgent care in a bid to ensure safer deliveries, the report adds.
"We whole-heartedly welcome Manisha Koirala as a spokesperson for our cause," said Giulia Vallese, UNFPA Representative in Nepal through a press statement issued on Monday, adding, "Our efforts must be sustained well into the future, and must be adequately and consistently resourced. We are very grateful to Manisha for her dedication and commitment, and look forward to working together strategically, both now and in the future."
UNFPA, along with the government, is coordinating and providing sexual and reproductive health services for the women and girls in need.
