Miyan, who landed at the airport from the UAE on an Air Arabia flight at 8 pm Sunday, had hidden the counterfeit notes making a false bottom in his bag. [break]
Police said he had hidden currency notes of 1,000 and 500 denominations in packets of cookies, detergent powder and tea. He was carrying 4,999 notes of 1,000 denomination and 3,990 of 500. Police had checked Miyan as he was getting out of the arrival lounge.
Police suspect that Miyan may have been involved in the counterfeit currency racket for a long time making Kathmandu as transit.
However, it is yet to be revealed who gave him the notes and to whom they were supposed to be delivered. Police said Miyan may have tried to take advantage of the fact that the focus of the entire security apparatus was on maintaining law and order due to the current political uncertainty.
