Sanjaya Poddar of Inaruwa told police that Nirajan Yadav was kidnapped for ransom, but was killed later after events took an unexpected turn. [break]
Police made Poddar public at a press conference on Friday. Poddar is a friend of Nirajan´s uncle. He occasionally visited the Yadav household. He kidnapped Nirajan from his house, took him to India and eventually slit his throat.
The boy, who was a UKG student at Inaruwa Boarding School, was kidnapped last Saturday.
Poddar told police that he took the boy on a bicycle to Bhantabari, and thereafter to Supaul, India on foot. He killed the boy on Monday morning, according to Superintendent of Police Bhupal Kumar Bhandari.
Police said the murder took place even before the kidnapper negotiated ransom amount with Nirajan´s family members.
Inspector Rajendra Parajuli said two people were involved in the kidnapping, but the mastermind is still at large. At the press conference, police said the mastermind was also close to the Yadav family, and is suspected to be in India.
Nirajan´s father is a police constable. The fact that the boy was from a family with ordinary financial background has made the kidnapping case even more puzzling.
