KATHAMNDU, April 5: Malaysian ambassador to Nepal Dato´ Ilankovan Kolandavelu has asked Nepali manpower agencies to cooperate with the Malaysian authorities for repatriation of undocumented and overstaying Nepali workers from Malaysia.

During the meeting with office-bearers of Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) on Monday, Kolandavelu said the Malaysian government was ready to deport overstaying and undocumented Nepalis without slapping penalty if travel documents and air tickets are provided by the Nepali side. "The Malaysian envoy has expressed his readiness to increase employment opportunities for Nepali workers if Nepal cooperates with the Malaysian authorities for the repatriation of illegally staying Nepali workers," Kumud Khanal, NAFEA secretary, told myrepublica.com.

"We will continue to prioritize Nepali workers in the days to come if the problem of undocumented and overstaying Nepali workers is resolved," the envoy assured.

The Malaysian envoy also cautioned Nepali manpower agencies about the possible consequences if the issues of overstaying and undocumented Nepali workers remained unchecked in the coming days.

Malaysia has discouraged recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in recent days citing their involvement in illegal activities in Malaysia. Malaysian authorities have been carrying out a massive crackdown in the past couple of weeks to get rid of overstaying and undocumented migrant workers.

About 500 Nepali workers are believed to have been rounded up by the Malaysian authorities so far.
