A parliamentary party meeting of the UML discussed the upcoming budget just a day before the parliament is scheduled to hold pre-budget discussion starting Wednesday.[break]
The UML lawmakers emphasized on the need for bringing new budget without any delay through consent of the main opposition and other parties.
"Most of the lawmakers urged the finance minister to ensure equitable budget allocation to all constituencies and not give priority only to the districts of influential leaders," UML Chief Whip Bhim Acharya told reporters after the meeting.
"You can allocate Rs 20 million each to all the districts so that there will be no discrimination," Mangal Siddhi Manandhar said at the meeting.
Acharya said leaders at the meeting also agreed to form within a couple of days five separate teams from the five development regions to consult lawmakers and give feedbacks to the finance minister.
According to Acharya, the lawmakers suggested to Adhikari to give emphasis to large-scale development programs, infrastructural projects and employment-generating sectors. They advised him to adopt a policy of promoting three-pillared -- public, private and cooperative -- economic policy in the new budget.
Lawmaker Ravindra Adhikari said since the liquidity crunch is further worsening and we are heading toward a serious economic crisis, we have no option but to introduce budget on time.
