Locals agree to perform final rites of Dhrube victims

CHITWAN, Dec 20: Representatives from political parties and local struggle committee Chitwan on Thursday morning finally agreed to perform the final rites of a couple killed by lovesick tusker ‘Dhrube’ of Chitwan National Park.



The struggle committee had demanded Rs 1 million each to family members of victims. However, the committee has agreed to provide Rs 300,000 each to victim’s family members as an immediate compensation. [break]The remaining amount will be provided following a meeting with the government, the committee said.



“We have agreed to perform the final rites after the government dispatched a team to kill the tusker,” chairman of struggle committee Jena Bote said.



Buddhi Ram Bote and his wife Jariya of Gardi, Madi VDC were killed by the elephant on Saturday night. Locals had refused to perform the final rites of Bote couple demanding proper compensation to victim´s family.



Meanwhile, Dhrube, who created havoc by killing seven people in less than three months, was shot at on Wednesday.



A team deployed to hunt down the mad tusker, Dhrube was spotted somewhere in Meghauli on Wednesday evening, and was shot at around 4:30 pm. However, even after being shot, Dhrube managed to run away.
