Refugees held on looting charge
BHADRAPUR: The Jhapa police on Saturday night arrested three Bhutanese refugees on the charge of looting at the Gramin Cooperatives based in Gachchha, Bhojpur district. The arrested include 33 year-old Bir Bahadur BK of sector ´B´ at Beldangi-3 based refugee camp, 41 year-old Gopal Gurung of the same camp and 47 year-old Padam Magar of sector ´B´ at Beldangi -2 based camp. They were arrested from the camps. According to the Area Police Office, Damak, they had looted Rs 800,000 from the Cooperatives some 22 days ago. It is believed that the accused are habitual looters and were hired by someone for the crime. Police said that the accused will be sent to Bhojpur Sunday itself for necessary action.
MBBs students still missing
PARASI : Whereabouts of two MBBS students, who had dived into the Narayani River from the British Camp in Gaindakot-2 of Nawalparasi three days ago, have not been identified. The whereabouts of Ashish Bajgain of Kavrepalacnchowk-11 and Aruna Bhandari of Byas municipality-4 who were Third Year students at Bharatpur Medical College, have not been found yet, said Inspector at Area Police Office, Gaindakot, Birendera Thapa. Search for the missing is underway on the joint efforts of locals and police. Police have recovered a pulsar motorbike (Na 10 Pa 4824) and a bag with laptop from the place they jumped into the river. Locals informed the police immediately after Bajgain and Bhandari jumped into the river.
Landslide buries vehicle, obstructs highway
GAJURI : Landslide triggered by incessant rain has buried a bus carrying Indian tourists at Baireni Sunday morning. It has caused traffic obstruction along the Prithvi Highway. Landslide caved in on a moving bus, confirmed Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) at Baireni Police Post, Padma Thapa. However, all the passengers on board remained unhurt. The landslide took place due to rampant extraction of sand and haphazard construction of rural roads without approval from the Department of Road, locals said.
