At a time when people from all walks of life were expecting so much from the various political parties to resolve their disputes and deliver the Constitution, the politicians have betrayed the whole nation with their seemingly never-ending “blame game.”[break]
As a result, the future of Nepal seems so blur. What’s more, these big parties’ agenda on federalism has divided the socially harmonious Nepali society into various ethnicities and caste groups like never before.
During the bandas and strikes in the last week of the deadline, it was disheartening to see small groups of people accusing particular castes and even threatening to wipe out certain caste groups from their surroundings.
What a shame! Was this the aspiration of the Nepali people when they voted and brought them to the Constituent Assembly and paid them for four years? Are these visionless old politicians still eligible to rule the nation? Only time will tell, and people will decide.
Now is the crucial time to decide whether we cry upon their failure and stop believing in ourselves or keep moving forward with renewed optimism, no matter what!
As a 28-year-old aspiring citizen of this beloved motherland, I would definitely take the latter option and still keep having faith in the progress, dreams and aspirations as befits this whole Nepali generation.
If Nepal is best known for anything, it is for the incredible social harmony in which our untold generations have lived through time immemorial. And now is the time to make that social bond stronger and more harmonious.
We should keep reminding ourselves that the future of Nepal, for better or for worse, lies completely in our own hands. Yes, the disappointment of not having the Constitution, even after such a long time, has deeply saddened all of us. But let’s do some serious soul-searching and ask ourselves: Does that prevent us from doing our things?
Nepali farmers will continue to plant and harvest their crops, drivers will continue to ply their vehicles to the corners of Nepal, teachers will continue to educate their students and help shape the future generations, doctors and nurses will continue treating and caring for their patients, policymakers will formulate timely policies, traffic personnel will continue to brave the pollution and help maintain order on the streets, policemen will continue to maintain law and order, soldiers will continue to train themselves and remain fighting fit, mothers will continue to prepare meals and send their children to schools, businessmen will continue to ensure easy flow of daily necessities, TV anchors will continue to read their news, RJs will continue to spin their music, singers will continue to sing, bankers will continue to invest and create opportunities, sportspersons will keep trying to excel in their respective fields, newspapers will continue to keep their citizens informed, journalists will continue to write the facts, gardeners will keep planting trees and flowers, pilots will keep flying the planes, people will continue to celebrate their festivals, mountaineers will continue to climb Everest, devotees will continue to pray, citizens will continue to give their best in their respective works, girls will continue to be and dream beautiful, boys will continue to aspire and hope to do better.
So long these incredible Nepalis from various walks of life continue with their respective works, Nepal will always have a chance for a better future.
Yes, politics still has a huge role to play. But in the name of blaming the old pathetic politics, let us, as patriotic citizens, not turn away from our own goals and dreams. Let’s not put our hands on our foreheads and blame ourselves for being born in Nepal. Let’s have faith in the power of democracy and free society.
Let’s keep moving forward to achieving our aims and to fulfilling our goals. Let’s still be proud that we have come this far and will continue to march ahead. Let’s give peace another chance. And let’s not lose hope.
