SHANISCHARE, Jhapa, Nov 13: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Friday said the current political problems were the results of the failure to develop a right political system.

Speaking at a program after inaugurating a building of Mechi Eye Hospital at Anarmani of Jhapa, Dr Yadav said the people have not been able to get a system which reflected their identity even after fighting for democracy for over six decades.

He said the current deadlock should end through the parliament and nobody should ignore the sovereign people´s mandate. Saying that the parliament is the supreme body of the people´s mandate, Dr Yadav warned of bad times if the parties fail to maintain unity.

Saying the CA election results also reflect the need for cooperation and consensus, Dr Yadav said the parties should follow the people´s mandate to write the constitution. He said it is the responsibility of all parties to build a civilized society and to institutionalize democracy.

Dr Yadav repeatedly called for consensus and cooperation and suggested all not to violate the constitution. Saying that he has never violated the constitution, he said he will remain within the constitution in the days ahead.

“It´s time to manage the change achieved through people´s power,” Dr Yadav said, adding that the current problem will be solved if everyone followed the people´s mandate and interim constitution. He said it is the responsibility of all parties to wipe out the remnants of the conflict.

The president said the country had entered the path of peace through 12-point understanding and comprehensive peace accord and the process should not be disrupted. He said nobody should deny the fact that the responsibility to institutionalize the political change lies on the people and the parliament elected by the people.

At the program, health secretary Dr Sudha Sharma and donors´ representatives also spoke. The building was constructed at the cost of Rs 200 million provided by Netherlands Eye Care Foundation. The hospital has 200 beds.
