Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
President Paudel noted that making the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026 successful is a shared responsibility of all. He also urged everyone to contribute to the process so the country can move ahead on the path of constitutional rule, democracy, good governance, and rapid development as desired by the people.
Democracy Day is observed every year on Falgun 7 in remembrance and honor of the historic achievement of securing human rights and civil liberties following the success of the 1951 revolution against autocratic rule.
According to President Paudel, the day is recorded in Nepal’s history as a proud and unforgettable moment because the belief that sovereignty must rest with the people was established through public struggle and the sacrifice of martyrs.
He also stressed that the 1951 revolution laid an important foundation for the establishment of the federal democratic republic achieved through long struggle and sacrifice, as well as for the drafting of the present constitution by the people themselves. He said Democracy Day also serves to keep the importance of citizens’ rights alive while reminding the nation of the immortal legacy of the martyrs.
“The federal democratic republic is a major achievement gained by Nepalis after more than seven decades of struggle. Democracy will further strengthen broad national unity along with social justice, equality, social harmony, and prosperity,” the message states. “It has established the principle that the people are the ultimate source of state power. The Constitution of Nepal has adopted a federal democratic republican system and aims to build a socialism-oriented economy based on justice and equality.”
President Paudel also called on all stakeholders to work toward development and prosperity through good governance, which he described as the main goal of the federal democratic republic.
