Speaking at a function organized by Common Movement for Peace and Democracy, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala said his party was ready to lead a democratic alliance, if necessary, to safeguard democracy in the country.

Koirala also claimed that the seven-point agreement is against the letter and spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Speaking at the same function, Chairman of Rastriya Janasakti Party Surya Bahadur Thapa stating that democracy is in crisis stressed on the need for a broader democratic alliance.

“The constitution will not be drafted unless there is a clear policy on the peace process,” said Thapa, “As the alliance between the Maoists and the CPN-UML has endangered the peace process, there is a need for a democratic alliance led by the Nepali Congress.”
