KATHMANDU, July 28: Constituent Assembly (CA) chair Subas Nembang has said that the process of amending the preliminary draft of the new constitution has begun after receiving the public feedback.

Speaking in an interaction programme organized by the Nepal Law Society and the International Idea in the capital today, CA chair Nembang said the notable participation of the people has approved the efforts towards promulgating the new constitution by mid-August.

He added that there would be no compromise in the established procedures, process, norms and the required time for discussions on the draft in the name of fast track constitution drafting process.

Lawmakers would get enough time for discussing the issues of the new constitution, he added. Chair Nembang said that the constitution drafting process was in a final stage as the public feedbacks have been collected for the same.

Similarly, Citizens Relations and Constitution Suggestion Committee member Prabha Bajracharya said that the people had given feed backs to amend the preamble and correct the linguistic errors. Former lawmaker Khim Lal Devkota commented that the 16-point pact and draft have no matching.

Similarly, advocate Pushpa Bhusal informed that the public had given suggestions for having the direct election modality in each executive from ward chair to the head of the state.

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) president Dr Mahendra Bista urged to mention the term 'full press freedom' in the new constitution as the provision was even in the Interim Constitution.

Similarly, Press Chautari chair Rajendra Aryal, Nepal Law Society executive director Krishna Man Pradhan and Khusi Tharu of International Idea said that the public participation on the draft of constitution has proved that people are superior in the constitution drafting process. RSS
