The CIAA investigated the scam after the SAC forwarded it a report that was prepared by the parliamentary body after conducting a thorough study of the issue.[break]
CPN-UML lawmaker Pradip Gyawali, who headed a subcommittee formed by the SAC to probe any irregularities, said the CIAA´s decision to hold all the accused equally responsible and seek equal punishment for all did not seem to be justified. "The move to level a similar charge at all the individuals involved will eventually make the case very weak," Gyawali said at the PAC meeting on Friday.
He said it seemed that CIAA officials wanted to prolong the issue by filing case against many individuals and ultimately weaken it.
Hariraj Limbu of UCPN (Maoist) said the SAC has to monitor things cautiously and continuously until the issue is taken to a logical conclusion.
"It is the PAC´s duty to monitor the implementation side as well. Therefore, we have to summon the CIAA officials and ask them about the matter," Limbu said.
Sudarsan Baral of the Maoist party said serious questions were raised against the CIAA´s decision, adding there is a public feeling that corruption on that scale would not be possible without the involvement of the top bureaucratic and political leadership.
