A team of Nepal Army (NA) personnel and police recovered Rudra Bahadur Budhathoki´s body from under the landslide. Budhathoki went missing since the landslide swept away his father-in-law Udiram Budha´s house Friday morning in Purtimkada VDC-3 of Rukum. [break]
Earlier, 11 persons, including Udiram´s whole family, were killed when two separate landslides took place in two wards of Purtimkada VDC. Similarly, another landslide in Thaksingh village of Nuwakot had killed three siblings on the same day.
Meanwhile, a landslide killed an 11-year-old child in Ragda village in Jajarkot Friday. Lanka Bahadar Bishwakarma, who was walking, was killed when landslide fell on him. A woman and a girl, were injured in the landslide.
Relief items provided to landslide victims
KATHMANDU: A joint effort of a relief committee and the District Development Committee, Rukum have provided RS.25000 each to the families of the landslide victims on Saturday.
Assistant Chief District Officer Arjun Bhandari handed over the amount to the victims´ families.[break]
"We have given the money as a financial support to the deceased´s families so that they can cremate their dead", said Chief District Officer (CDO) Krishna Prasad Adhikari, "We are planning to provide other relief items to the families", he further added.
The landslide victims will be provided with utensils. The 22 families that have been displaced by the landslide will be provided each with 50 kilos of rice, pulses and a liter of oil.
132 persons of the 22 houses of Purtimkada 3, Githakoth have fled their homes fearing landslide and have taken refuge in a school.
Red Cross Society is providing relief items worth Rs 2,50,000 to the victims´ families.
The landslides occurred following a week-long torrential rain in Rukum. According to police inspector Kishor Shrestha, other villagers are also under the risk of landslides in the village.
