Lama appointed member-secretary

KATHMANDU, June 12: Former karate player and well-known filmmaker Yuvaraj Lama has been appointed member-secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) on Sunday. Lama, along with five others, was appointed as board-member on Friday by the government.[break]



Youth and Sports Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang administered the oath of office to the newly appointed members at his office on Friday evening, and appointed Lama as member-secretary right after the oath-taking ceremony.



Newly appointed board members Indra Bahadur Thing, Pahal Singh Gharti Magar, Kusum Kumari Shrestha and Number Sherpa also took the oath while another newly-appointed member Mukunda Bahadur Pahari was not present at the ceremony.



Lama is a member of the first batch of Nepali karate players to earn black-belt. He had taken black belt along with karate veteran Mohan Rai and Gopal Bhandari. Around 28 years ago, Lama had started his karate career and served as a coach until 1988.



Lama, 52, who is a well known filmmaker for the last two decades, claims he never totally sever his ties with sports.
