KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Kulman Ghising has stepped up his political engagements shortly after resigning from his ministerial post, holding a one-on-one meeting with Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane on Friday.
Ghising visited Lamichhane at his residence, where the two discussed issues related to party integration. Ghising’s Ujyalo Nepal Party has sought a comprehensive deal covering representation in the central committee, revisions to the proportional representation list, and candidacies in direct elections.

Although an agreement on party unification has already been signed, several key issues between the RSP and Ujyalo Nepal remain unresolved. While 26 central committee members have been accommodated from Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah’s side, Ujyalo Nepal has yet to secure representation.
According to sources, disagreements persist over how many central committee seats should be allocated to Ujyalo Nepal. The party has also demanded that some of its nominees on the closed proportional list be moved up in priority.
The unification agreement names Ghising as a vice-chair, but he has not yet attended RSP meetings. Ghising has said he will only participate after the integration process is fully completed.
Since stepping down as minister, Ghising has intensified political consultations. On Thursday, he held internal discussions with party leaders at his residence.
