Krishnamohan badminton from Sunday

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: The Seventh Krishnamohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament, the tournament with the highest cash prize in badminton is going to be held from Sunday in the capital.



The tournament being organized by the Armed Police Force (APF) will be held at the APF covered hall at Halchowk.[break]



The six-day long event featuring 11 different categories carries a total cash prize of Rs 765,000 which is an increment of Rs 100,000 from the previous edition, stated the Armed Police Force (APF) AIGP Sailendra Kumar Shrestha amidst a press conference at the APF headquarters Halchowk, Kathmandu on Sunday.



The matches to be held under the rule of Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asian Confederation (BAC) will feature men´s and women´s singles, men´s and women´s doubles, U-17 boys´ and girls´, veteran´s doubles over 45 and 55 years age, mixed doubles and master´s double over 35 and 45 age respectively.

Masters event has been added for the first time in this edition which will see the players from Nepal Amry, APF, Nepal Police and Civil servants competing against each other.



Nepal Badminton Association will provide technical supports for organizing the event.



The winner and runners up of men´s singles event will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 while the two semifinalists will purse Rs 10,000 each and quarterfinalist will get Rs 5,000 each.



In women´s singles category, Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 will be awarded to the top two players and Rs 10,000 each will be awarded to two semifinalists.



The winners and the runners up of men´s doubles pair will get Rs 50,000and Rs 30,000 and semifinalist pair will get Rs 10,000 each.



Likewise, total of Rs 30,000 has been allocated to winning team of women´s doubles and Rs 20,000 for the runners up team. The semifinalist team will bag Rs 10,000 each.



The total cash prize in mixed doubles is Rs 70,000 including Rs 30,000 for the winning team.The U-17 boys´ and girls´ carry a purse of Rs 40,000 each with winners of both categories getting Rs 20,000 each.



The winners in veteran´s double above 45 and 55 will bag a purse of Rs 30,000 each. Both the events carry a purse of Rs 70,000 each. Likewise, the winners in masters above 35 and 45 age group will bag Rs 20,000 each. The total cash prizes in both the events are Rs 55,0000 each.



Speaking on the occasion, AIGP Shrestha also highlighted APF´s contributions in the development of Nepali sports. He also highlighted the achievements of APF athletes in international arena.
