Koirala, Nepal discuss consensus govt

KATHMANDU, Aug 23: President of Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, and senior leader of CPN (UML), Madhav Kumar Nepal, held discussions on latest political situation and other issues on Tuesday morning. The meeting was held at Koirala residence, Maharajgunj.



During the meeting, the two leaders have expressed their commitment to carry out maximum efforts from their sides for the formation of the national consensus government. [break]



On the occasion, Koirala urged leader Nepal to help support for NC candidate, Sher Bahadur Deuba, in the prime ministerial election for the consensus government.



In response, leader Nepal said there was no alternative to the national consensus government adding that the parties should not form the majority government as such government cannot deliver on peace and constitution.



He stated the UML has stressed for forging national consensus to complete ongoing peace process and promulgate new constitution by holding dialogue with different political parties.



The timeframe given by the President for political parties for the formation of the national consensus government is expiring at 5 pm tomorrow but the parties have not reached any conclusion so far for the national unity government despite a series of bilateral and multilateral talks.
