Now Koirala will remain in Dillibazar jail until the court finalizes the murder case against him. If convicted, he will face a life term with property attachment. Yet, the court granted bail amounting Rs 100,000 to Tara Regmi, Koirala´s alleged mistress who was arrested on the same charge, arguing that the intensity of her involvement in the murder case doesn´t require her detention. A single bench of Additional District Judge Bal Krishna Uprety denied bail to Koirala on the basis of statement recorded by him and circumstantial proofs like use of a government vehicle with registration number BA 1 Jha 6213 to ferry the dead body and furs of the blanket used to cover the dead body.
“All the evidences collected and Koirala´s statement during interrogation point at his direct involvement in the murder and for this reason the court denied him bail until final verdict,” said Bharat Lamsal, administration chief of the Kathmandu District Court.
A joint squad of Metropolitan Police Crime Division and Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, had arrested Koirala on January 22 from Nagdhunga while he was returning to Kathmandu from Palung where he reportedly cremated his wife´s remains. Similarly, police arrested Regmi from Satdobato, Lalitpur on February 6, soon after her return from Malaysia.
Koirala has been charged with murdering Dhakal at her residence at Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu on January 11.
