"We have deployed four teams at Kalanki, Balaju, Khashi Bajar and Bijulibazar of the metropolis," Hari Kumar Shrestha, chief at the division said. He informed that health workers and veterinarians are tasked to inspect the health of animals, mark them with red and green signs as per their health status."Green sign is the symbol of healthy animal, which can be purchased and the red sign indicates that the animal is not fit to slaughter," added Shrestha. He asked the consumers to ensure that the goats are inspected by veterinarians and technicians deployed by the metropolis and buy only those marked with green sign.
According to Shrestha, health technicians and veterinarians inspected hundreds of goats last Wednesday and Thursday. "We have dumped two goats, which were killed while being brought to the capital last Thursday and marked red sign on two goats, which were ailing," he informed.
Veterinarians of the metropolis mark red sign on the animals which seem unhealthy only after keeping them under supervision for 24 hours. "If their health does not improve then only we mark them red," he added.
The KMC said that it would monitor health of animals which traders have started to bring in the capital in huge numbers.
