POKHARA, July 6: A team commissioned by the Ministry of Land Reform and Management (MoLRM) to investigate into the irregularities in Kaski Land Revenue Office (KLRO) has accused KLRO officials of sheer negligence while issuing clearance on land mortgaged in banks and financial institutions.

MoLRM guidelines demand mandatory presence of bank officials before land revenue offices issue clearance on mortgaged lands.

Director General of the Department of Land Revenue (DoLR) Jit Bahadur Thapa said the department will take action against the KLRO chief Mukunda Prasad Dhakal and staffers of concerned section for violating the guidelines. “We will punish all those found guilty,” said Thapa.

The two member panel comprising MoLRM under-secretaries Amrit Karmacharya and Baburam Khanal has accused Santosh Poudel of Hetauda of cheating banks by taking KLRO staffers into confidence and bribing them. The team will formally submit its report to the MoLRM within a week.

Khanal said Poudel succeeded to defraud millions of rupees from banks taking advantage of the negligent and irresponsible KLRO staffers.

“KLRO staffers have committed a grave mistake by not following the guidelines. We will recommend their names for action after a detailed study of the documents,” said Khanal.

Chief District Officer of Kaski Shambhu Koirala said KLRO officers had direct involvement in the fraud and promised to take action against the guilty. However, KLRO staffers have denied any involvement in the fraud.
