Lamichhane allegedly went missing while he was returning home from abroad on July 23. The family had claimed kidnappers demanded Rs. 20 million in ransom, but police investigation did not substantiate such a claim.

District Police Office, based on the statement of Lamichhane and his physical as well as mental situation, ruled out the possibility of kidnapping. Police said they were unaware about the ransom.

Lamichhane came in police contact at Hetauda. He claimed a group of four-five people had left him there.
