ITAHARI, April 7: Police on Saturday held Devi Prasad Regmi who came to media attention after slapping CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal on the face during a public program in Itahari last year.

Regmi, himself a UML activitist, had reached Itahari after learning that Chairman Khanal was coming to the place to attend a regional meet being organized by the party. [break]

"We have made the arrest (of Regmi) to avoid any untoward incident," a police source said. "There is not any other particular reason (for the arrest)."

Khanal, who has vowed not to leave the capital until the peace and statute drafting processes are completed, however, has not come to Itahari.

The UML party is organizing a mass meet in Itahari to press for conclusion of the peace process and promulgation of the new constitution in time.
