Khadka wins NPGA President's Cup

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Home pro Rabi Khadka clinched the trophy of the NPGA President´s Cup as he registered a two-stroke victory over Nepal No 1 Shiva Ram Shrestha at the par-67 Royal Nepal Golf Club on Thursday.



Khadka shot one-over 68 in the final round for a total score of three-under 198 to claim his fourth career title. Shrestha posted four-under 63 to finish second at one-under 200. [break]



Ram Thapa, who played 68 on Thursday, came third at six-over 207. Of the total cash purse of Rs 300,000, the top three pros received Rs 55,000, Rs 37,000 and Rs 28,000 respectively. The event is fifth under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13.



Sanjay Lama (70) finished fourth at 210, while Umesh Nagarkoti (67) was fifth at 211. Defending champion Ramesh Nagarkoti (74) and Surya Prasad Sharma (68) shared the sixth place at 212. Jaya Ram Shrestha was eighth at 214, whereas teaching pro in Germany Sabin Sapkota was ninth at 216 and Dhana Thapa came 10th at 217.

Khadka, who began the day with seven-stroke lead over Shrestha, played even-par 33 on the front nine and added one-over 35 on the back nine. He carded birdies on the second and fourth against bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes. On the back nine, he shot birdies on the 10th and 13th holes before dropping shots on the 14th, 15th and 18th holes.



At one stage, Shrestha had cut the deficit to three strokes but failed to catch the leader because of his own mistakes. Shrestha, fresh from finishing 36th in the Indian Tour´s Order of Merit, shot two-under on either halves.



He began the day with a bogey but bounced back with three straight birdies on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes. His back nine included an eagle on the 10th hole and birdies on the 12th and 15th holes against bogeys on the 11th and 14th holes.



In Amateur section, Nepal No 1 Bikash Bogati shot six-over 73 to win the trophy with the total score of 16-over 217. Dinesh Prajapati, who shot 75 on Wednesday, came second at 220. Amateur leader of the first two rounds Bishnu Sharma faltered to 15-over 82 to finish third at 224.



Altogether 56 golfers, including 31 pros and 25 amateurs, took part in the 54-hole tournament sponsored by Nepal Professional Golfers Association (NPGA) President Rabindra Man Shrestha. NPGA President Shrestha, Nepal Golf Association President Madhukar Yakthumba, General Secretary Tashi Ghale, NPGA Advisor Ghana Shyam Thapa and RNGC President Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha handed over the prizes to the winners.
