KCTC youth team to compete in Malaysia

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Youth team of Kathmandu Cricket Training Centre (KCTC) is set to take part in the Third YSD Youth Cricket Carnival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, slated for August 15-19.

The U-16 age group team of the KCTC will contest in the event, which also features tournament in the U-18 section, informed Raj Shrestha, the team manager and coach of the team, who played for Nepal in the ICC U-19 World Cup for three times and also captained Nepal's U-15 team.
Altogether eight teams will contest in the U-16 section, including three teams each from Sri Lanka and Malaysia, and one each from Nepal and Singapore.

The team of KCTC will leave for Malaysia on Friday. KCTC is scheduled to play against Malaysian and Sri Lankan teams in the league match. A team needs to play at least six matches in the carnival.

Matches of the carnival will be played 12 overs per side with eight players in the playing list. Any player that reaches 35 runs or beyond will retire automatically.

KCTC's youth team comprises of 10 players -- Bipin Acharya (Captain), Deepak Bohara, Biraj Tandukar, Irshad Ansari, Ankit Shrestha, Mehul Shrestha, Pratish GC, Sunil Thakur, Bibek Rana and Rit Gautam.

Meanwhile, representatives of SCT and nPay, the sponsors of the team, handed over the team jersey to KCTC President Gyanendra Malla.

During the program, Gyanendra, a key member of Nepali cricket team, opined that the carnival will provide good opportunity of international exposure for youth players.
