KATHMANDU, Feb 3: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has chargesheeted the Local Development Officer of Kathmandu at the Special Court accusing him of corruption during procurement of tarpaulins meant for earthquake-hit people.

The anti-graft watchdog has also filed cases against two other officials of District Development Committee, Kathmandu and three suppliers in the same case.

According to the CIAA press statement, it has filed cases against Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, Kathmandu's LDO, and the accountant and the storekeeper of District Development Committee, Kathmandu, Yam Nath Sharma and Chiranjeevi Khadka, respectively. Similarly, Mithileshwar Tiwari of New Pashupati Trade and Suppliers, Jhamka Prasad Gautam of Dipesh Enterprises and Hom Prasad Gautam of Sebika Enterprises have also been charged.

CIAA said that tarpaulins worth Rs 328,016 imported from India with tax waiver were billed for Rs 43,79,745. The chargesheet accuses government officials of embezzling Rs 35,06,626 each.
