Kamal Thapa entrusted for decision on govt participation

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: A Central Committee meeting of the Rastriya Prajtantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) on Friday entrusted its party Chairman Kamal Thapa to take final decision on the participation of his party in the next government.

The meeting held at its central party office Dhumbarahi decided to this effect, Mohan Shrestha, assistant Spokesperson, informed. According to him, his party could participate in the next government if his party provided respectful position.On Thursday, Chairman KP Sharma Oli-led UML team comprising other leaders such as Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Bidya Bhandari and Pradeep Gyawali had reached RPP-N central office seeking its support for the upcoming election of the Prime Miister at the House. UML team had handed over the letter to RPP-N Chair Kamal Thapa seeking support for the party's candidate.

Thapa on the occasion had told UML leaders to wait for an official decision from his party's central committee meeting on Friday.

RPP-N, the fourth largest party in current parliament, has 25 lawmakers. RPP-N would a decisive force at a time when both UML and Nepali Congress are claiming the post of next Prime Minister.

According to RPP-N leaders, the party wants to see the three largest parties to form the new government and in such a scenario the fourth largest party would play the role of a constructive opposition.

If any of the three major parties remained in opposition, the RPP-N is likely to join the government.
