JSC suspends Kathmandu district attorney

KATHMANDU, July 23: The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Friday suspended Deputy Attorney General Surendra Thapa for his failure to appeal before the Patan Appellate court against the decision of releasing repeat offenders agianst low bail amounts.



The then Kathmandu District Court Judge Tej Bahadur Karki had released Sanjay Shrestha, Rohit Paliwan Agrawal and Bhimsen Pandit -- who have been repeatedly arrested by police on kidnapping and other charges and released on bail.



The Judicial Council (JC) last week suspended judge Karki for his controversial decision to release the offenders.



Thapa was serving as chief of District Attorney Office, Kathmandu when judge Karki issued controversial decision. But Thapa didn´t appeal before the Appellate Court against Karki´s controversial decision.



Shrestha, Agrawal and Pandit are learnt to have been involved in the abduction of Dr Bhaktaman Shrestha.
