Journos receive threats over phone

POKHARA, Feb 5: A leader of Maoist student organization made a telephone threat to Pokhara-based photojournalist Krishna Mani Baral for publishing a photograph in newspapers.



Baral, who is working with Annapurna Post daily, snapped photographs of arson in Prithvi Narayan Campus a few days ago.



A person, who identified himself as the secretary of Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students´ Union-Revolutionary, asked the photojournalist to come to the union´s office, according to Baral.



Immediately after Baral received the threatening phone call, Pokhara regional bureau chief of the daily, Rup Narayan Dhakal, also received a call asking him about the identity of the journalist writing the news item. The person also threatened to burn copies of the daily.
