Journalists in Chitwan are deprived of getting minimum remuneration

CHITWAN, Aug. 22: A large number of journalists serving with different media houses in Chitwan have been deprived of getting remuneration as determined by Minimum Wages Fixation Committee, said stakeholders.



At an interaction programme organized here Friday by Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Chitwan Chapter on ´Status of Working Journalists and Classification of Newspaper´, various speakers voiced their complaint that journalists here have been denied of minimum wages. [break]



On the occasion, Director General of the Department of Information Laxmi Bilas Koirala suggested journalists to start working for any media only after first obtaining appointment letter.



He also asked journalists to register complaint with the Press Council and Press Registrar´s Office if media houses denied them appointment letter and remuneration.



The Department of Information is in favour of journalists, he said, adding the current classification of newspapers is not flawless.
