Journalist manhandled in Kavre

BANEPA, Aug 7: A journalist has been beaten up at Chandani Chowk in Banepa, on Monday evening. Ujad Rakttim, editor of Naya Sanchar Darshan, a local weekly, published from Kavre district  has been thrashed by a local.



Rakttim was returning home after shopping when the incident took place. "I was walking on the road when this man suddenly slapped me on the face", said Rakttim, while narrating the incident at Kavre chapter office of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).  "Before I could retaliate, he slapped me again." [break]



The journalist also said police patrol, present while the mishap happened, did not detain the attacker. "Even when I ran towards the mobile van of police, the attacker chased me and tried to beat me. But the officer on duty did not intervene," he reiterated.



According to Banepa police, the assaulter has been identified as a local man named Aaite. "We have started  investigation into the case and are searching for him," sub-inspector Bijay Khatri of the area police office informed.



Rakttim is a member of FNJ Kavre and chairman of Association of National Indigenous Journalist, Kavre.
