The cycle rally, which will be held on September 28 will start from Patan Durbar Square and will end at St Xavier’s Godavari School in Godavari. The rally, after reaching its destination, will culminate into a concert where bands such as Albatross, Soul Tease, Kramasha and Clouds will entertain the participants. A lakhe dance will also be performed by a cultural dance group from Badegaun in Lalitpur.
“This rally is an attempt to bring together a large number of people for a good cause,” shares Jenish Maharjan, Joint Secretary of XAG informing, “The proceeds from this rally will help St Xavier’s and the Jesuit Society’s initiative, the Moran Memorial School in Maheshpur of Jhapa.” Established by the Jesuit Society, the school educates children from poor families, mainly those who work in tea plantations. The school charges minimum fees to the students and runs on funds, informed Maharjan.
From the visit last year, XAG discovered the lack of proper drinking water for the school students and this year, coinciding with the International Tourism Day theme of ‘Tourism and Water: Protecting our common future’, the amount collected from the Cycle Rally 2013 will be used for water purification project and a medical camp at the school.
Registration for participants starts at 6:30 am at Patan Durbar Sqaure on Saturday. The registration fee for school students (classes 7, 8, 9 and 10) is Rs 300, for college students (+2 included) it’s Rs 350 whereas for others, it’s Rs 600. The fee includes refreshments, lunch and a rally t-shirt. Non-cyclers can also join the concert at St Xavier’s Godavari School, tickets for which will be available at the gate.
