Jintao expressed his optimism about early conclusion of the tasks of peace and constitution during a brief meeting with Nepal’s newly appointed ambassador to China Mahesh Maskey while receiving the letter of credence. [break]
Jintao appreciated Nepal’s stance on the one China policy, acknowledging Tibet and Taiwan as integral parts of China, and reiterated Bejing’s commitment for continuous economic assistance to Nepal in its development efforts.
Stating the geographic proximity between Nepal and China, Jintao also stressed on improved bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
Maskey, who arrived in Beijing one and a half month ago, presented his credentials to the head of state of China during the ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing on Thursday.
On the occasion, Maskey reiterated that Nepal upholds its one China policy and that Nepali soil will not be allowed to be used for anti-China activities.
The envoy also said Chinese Premier Wen Jibao’s recent visit to Nepal has help strengthen Nepal-China relations and asked for China’s cooperation to make the Nepal-China Friendly Visit Year 2012 a success.
Saying that Nepal has kept hydropower development and construction of the Kathmandu-Lhasa Railway track on top priority, Maskey urged for Chinese cooperation to complete those projects.
Maskey also extended President Dr Ram Baran Yadav’s invitation to Jintao for a Nepal visit at a convenient date.
Besides Maskey, envoys from Romania, Syria, Austria, Bolivia, Cyprus and Qatar also presented their respective credentials to the Chinese president during the ceremony.
