KATHMANDU, Aug 20: A Japanese climber is aiming to reach the top of Mt Everest alone on September 28, in an attempt to become the second man to achieve the feat after Italian mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner.

Nobukazu Kuriki, 28, will leave Kathmandu on Saturday to acclimatize with conditions in the Everest region, according to Tika Gurung, the expedition organizer.

Kuriki will be accompanied by Sherpa guides till the Base Camp located at 5,300 meters, after which he will be on his own. If he climbs Mt Everest, he will have made it to the top of the tallest mountains in all the seven continents, according to Gurung.
