“There were altogether 307 employees on contracts, but MoF had sent clear instruction to trim down the number and has allocated posts at NSC accordingly,” said Lama.[break]
“Following the instruction, NSC board decided to recruit only 200 employees picking most of them from among the existing employees on contracts.”
Taking a jab at UML leaders, Lama suggested that those who have been opposing NSC´s decision to cut the number of employees should provide the necessary budget to cover the salary expenses.
“NSC cannot support them due to lack of budget. If the ruling party leaders can convince the prime minister and the Ministry of Finance to provide necessary budget, we´d be happy to keep them on the job,” said Lama.
According to Lama, coaches, technical manpower and lower ranked staffers will get priority in the new recruitment process.
CPN (UML) leaders and leaders from its sister wing, Youth Association Nepal (YAN), have been alleging Lama of politicizing sports by ending the contracts of only those employees who support UML.
YAN President Mahesh Basnet had asked Lama to stop the procedure last week at a program of Nepal Basketball Association held in the NSC premises.
´Threat´ to Lama
Member Secretary Lama said police have informed him that he was under a threat of physical attack.
“Police personnel from Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, have informed me that there is a threat to my life from UML cadres,” said Lama during a press conference on Sunday.
He said that he´s not afraid of threats.
“I´m not afraid, but I´m surprised cadres of a responsible political party can stoop so low,” said Lama. “If something unruly happen in sports, UML and YAN will be responsible.”
