International School Awards to 12 Nepali schools

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: Twelve Nepali schools were granted British Council's International Schools Award (ISA) during an event organized in Radisson Hotel, Lazimpat on Thursday, August 13. In its third year now, the award is endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Education.

Coming under the British Council's project, Connecting Classroom, ISA is a yearly award given to participating schools that are selected on the basis of their applications. This year a total of 22 schools from nine districts of Nepal had applied out of which 12 have been granted full award. Schools to receive the award were, Euro Kids' Chhauni (Sakalya), Kathmandu; Reliance International Academy, Kathmandu; Karnali Education Foundation, Jhapa; Delhi Public School, Dharan; and Adarsha English Boarding Secondary School, Parbat, among others.The winning schools were provided with a trophy and certificates for the school, Principal and ISA coordinator by a panel of special guests comprising of Khagaraj Baral, executive director of National Center for Educational Development; Diwaker Dhungel, executive director of Curriculum Development Center; and Dev Kumari Gurung, director of Planning Division, Department of Education. The schools will also be allowed to use the coveted ISA Kite mark along with their school logo on all the official stationeries and promotional materials for a period of three years.

A press statement issued by the British Council quotes Brenden McSharry OBE, country director of British Council as saying, "In an increasingly globalized economy, it is vital that our students are prepared for working and communicating with each other in their learning and skills development programs across international borders in order to secure a prosperous and harmonious world. For our students to thrive in a competitive world, they must develop digital literacy, critical thinking and problem solving skills, creativity and imagination, leadership skills, team building and working skills, Information and Communications Technology management expertise and a commitment to becoming responsible and caring global citizens. ISA tries to embed these essential elements of the students' growth in the curriculum through this award."

Connecting Classrooms is a project implemented by British Council and funded by DFID which is designed to help young people develop knowledge, skills and values to live and work in a globalized economy, and make a positive contribution locally and globally.
