A 18-member delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industries, which completed its three-day visit to Kathmandu on Friday, expressed interest in investing in Nepal´s hydropower sector.
The delegation, has, however, expressed concern over political instability and delay in bringing the Electricity Act into place.
“The delegation was concerned about the political stability and establishing legal provision through the passing of Electricity Bill,” Dr Sandip Shah, President of Independent Power Producers´ Association of Nepal (IPPAN), said, adding, “In general, they want the ground condition to be set first.”
Shah also informed that the delegation also discussed issues pertaining to the construction of transmission lines, power price and infrastructure development with better access to the project sites.
“The Indian developers want better road access so that they do not have to bear the added road cost,” Shah said.
During the stay in Kathmandu, the delegation met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce and Supplies as well as FNCCI, CNI and IPPAN members, among others.
The delegation was here to explore the investment potentials in Nepal as decided during the PM´s recent visit to India.
