Indian PM urges to issue statute in consensus of all sides

KATHMANDU, July 17: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the political parties in Nepal to take the country head on the path to economic prosperity by completing the constitution writing process immediately in consensus of all sides.

During a 45-minute-long meeting with visiting UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday in New Delhi, Modi made such urge and expressed Indian government's readiness for all sort of supports for the same.


On the occasion, Modi also praised the role of UCPN (Maoist) party and its chairman Dahal to take the peace process to its logical end and expressed confidence that he would get success to promulgate the new constitution by bringing all parties in consensus.

It is said that Indian Prime Minister Modi expressed happiness for the progress in constitution writing in the recent time.

Likewise, Modi said that India was ready to invest in hydropower, tourism, agriculture and physical infrastructure development for Nepal's economic stride.

During the meeting, Dahal said that India's support and goodwill was needed as Nepal is going to promulgate its constitution in the near future.

Dahal's aide Shiva Khakurel briefed RSS that the former prime minister told the Indian PM that concrete bases were prepared for constitution writing after the 16-point deal.

He also added that efforts were on to make the constitution a common document of all, stating that entire parties in Nepal were effortful to bring the constitution by incorporating all political parties.

During the meeting, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal urged the Indian PM to resolve the border problem between Nepal and India. "Nepalis people have highly praised your statement made in the Legislature-Parliament meeting last year. And, I urge you to resolve the issue raised about Lipulekh pass that China and India inked a deal," Khakurel told RSS Dahal as saying.

Dahal urged to take immediate decision on border disputes based on historical documents and evidences in other areas besides Lipulekh pass.

Dahal urged for Indian government's initiative to address the issues of border dispute and Lipulekh pass by respecting the sentiments of Nepal and Nepalis, according to Khakurel.

Likewise, Dahal thanked Modi for India's support in rescue operations after the devastating April 25 earthquake in Nepal.

Furthermore, Dahal urged Modi for India's investment in Nepal's mega projects.

Earlier, Chairman Dahal also met with Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh. RSS
