Stating that the ongoing border blockade in Nepal imposed by India is against the people's feelings, civil society leaders including Awasthi have suggested to Narendra Modi's government to lift the blockade. "Modi government should take initiatives to remove the blockade at the earliest. Our bilateral relationship should not suffer," said Awasthi, adding that they are preparing to submit written suggestions to the Indian government for the same reason."Both the countries do not gain anything from the blockade. It'll instead have have huge negative impact on both the countries," said Dr Binaya Sharma, principal of Rajakiya School in Uttar Pradesh. "India has no reason to worry about internal affairs of Nepal, let alone interfere in it," he added.
Civil society leaders said that negative impacts of the ongoing blockade have been felt in India too. "We are not able to export goods to Nepal. Additionally, we are not able to cross the border back and forth with ease. Everyone has been affected," said Amar Gupta, acting chairman of Uttar Pradesh Udyog Byapar Mandal.
According to them, increasing activities against India in Nepal are not good either. The leaders also suggested to the Nepali side to maintain security along the Nepali border-points.
"Citizens of both the countries should refrain from going against each other. Instead, we should pressurize our respective governments to resolve the issues diplomatically," said Manik Chand, a local stakeholder.
