Despite the increasing suicide incidents, the government has not taken any steps toward curbing suicides, according to district residents0.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Saan Bahadur Bhandari, 53 of Golakharka in Ilam Municipality-4, killed himself by hanging from a tree near his house Tuesday. The reason behind the suicide remains unknown, according to police. Bhandari, a dairy farmer, had left home at 5:30 in the morning and never returned.
Likewise, Srijana Gajmer, 20, of Godak-6 in the district, also ended her life by hanging. Locals had found Gajmer hanging from the ceiling of her room at Tilkeni in Ilam Municapility-6 on Tuesday morning. She had been living with her sister at Tilkeni for study. Gajmer, a bachelor's second year student, is said to be good in studies.
"Suicide rate has not decreased in the district this year either," Ram Bahadur Rai, sub inspector at DPO, Ilam, said.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
According to Rai, people of all age groups and especially those suffering from psychological problems have been found committing suicide.
