I won't allow price hike: PM

KATHMANDU, Aug. 27: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has expressed the commitment not to allow price rise in daily necessities including pulses, rice, sugar and oil as well as in transport sector.



He said, "I have heard complaints of consumers that they have difficulties in their kitchen, I will not allow price rise of consumer goods by making positive interference in the market." [break]



Addressing a meeting of the Market Monitoring and Dashain and Tihar Festivals Supplies Management Committee held today under the chairmanship of PM, he said had prioritized relief to the consumers.



A three-month action plan for making arrangement of supplies of necessary items and services has been implemented through the Ministry of



Commerce and Supplies, he said, "I have directed the concerned for effective implementation of the action plan."



The prime minister said the responsibility of the supplies of items is that of private sector, and added they should supply by not forgetting the social responsibility.



He also said carteling in the transport sector will be controlled and that supply arrangement has been made for supply of items like sugar in view of the festivals. On the occasion, Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel also directed the concerned bodies for continuing monitoring of daily market.



On the occasion, secretaries of home, agriculture development and physical planning, works and transport management presented on the actions taken by their respective ministries on supply and regularization.



National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairman Deependra Bahadur Chhetri and NRB Governor Yubaraj Khatiwada were also present on the occasion. Consumer rights activist Jyoti Baniya demanded relief programme from the prime minister.



NCC chairman Suresh Kumar Basnet said businessmen had not increased price as it was increasing in the international level itself.
