Tanisara Kumal, 13, died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the hospital where she was admitted two days earlier for normal throat infection. Locals and the father of the sixth grader at Ram Lower Secondary School at Ghorbanda of Chirtungdhara-7 claimed that she died due to the negligence of the doctors.
“I lost my daughter after admitting her in the hospital for normal throat infection,” said her father Jit Bahadur. He claimed that the hospital had not allowed him to see his daughter for three days and suddenly handed over her body.
“I had seen them inserting a pipe through her throat. I was worried after seeing massive haemorrhage. But they told me not to worry about her and that her treatment was going on,” he added.
The hospital claimed that the girl died after swelling of throat due to diphtheria. “This kind of complication is very rare and is seen in a few people. The death has not occurred due to mistake of doctors or hospital,” hospital director Dr Rachel Karrach said.
But the locals begged to differ. Principal at the Ram Lower Secondary School Ram Prasad Paudel said the girl was fully fit while attending the school till Thursday. “She had shown no symptoms of any disease,” Paudel claimed. Fellow students at the school are incensed at the death of their colleague and demanded the hospital to own up responsibility for her death.
The hospital administration and the family were engaged in dialogue till Wednesday afternoon with the family pressing on for compensation.
