Home Ministry to form probe committee, death toll reaches 19

Nine victims identified

KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has decided to form an investigation committee into the bus accident that occurred at Bhaisigauda, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5 in Dhading.



According to Home Ministry Spokesperson Anand Kafle, the committee will be formed today after consultations with the concerned authorities.


Meanwhile, the death toll from the accident has risen to 19. The passenger bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421) traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu veered about 200 meters off the Prithvi Highway and plunged to the bank of the Trishuli River early Monday morning.

There were 44 people on board, including the driver. Of the 19 deceased, nine have been identified, while the identities of 10 victims are yet to be confirmed. Among the unidentified victims, seven are men and three are women.


Twenty-five injured passengers are receiving treatment at various hospitals, with most of them admitted to the National Trauma Center in Kathmandu.


Identified victims are 24-year-old British national Stewart Dominic Ethan; approximately 40-year-old Bibek Bastola of Pokhara Metropolitan City–30, Kaski; 63-year-old Chandra Bahadur Kunwar, originally from Waling, Syangja, currently residing in Nagarjun, Kathmandu; 40-year-old Om Kumar Malla of Byas Municipality–4, Tanahun; 30-year-old Engineer Thakuri of Tripurasundari Rural Municipality–4, Dhading; 55-year-old Bishnumaya Dhakal of Shuklagandaki Municipality–7, Tanahun; 42-year-old Lopsang Gole of Boudha Tusal, Kathmandu; 45-year-old Hariprasad Sigdel of Bhimad Municipality–6, Tanahun; and 55-year-old Nabin Shrestha of Tansen Municipality–2, Palpa.


Authorities have stated that efforts are underway to identify the remaining victims. The injured continue to receive treatment, with the majority undergoing care at the National Trauma Center in Kathmandu.
