KATHMANDU, Aug 24: A meeting between the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) and CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance on Saturday ended inconclusively as both the sides insisted for the powerful round table conference which would decide everything including fate of the new Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.

Leaders representing to the HLPC, however, dismissed the demands put forth by the alliance and decided not to go with roundtable conference unless the alliance agrees on the scheduled November 19 elections.[break]

The HLPC also decided not to hold further talks with CPN-Maoist led alliance unless it reviews its demands.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, CPN-UML leader Raghuji Panta informed that the ongoing talks with 33-party alliance failed as the alliance put forth extreme conditions that undermines the scheduled November 19 CA election.

CPN-Maoist leader Dev Gurung, however, told reporters that the HLPC decision of holding talks with their alliance would be a ‘historic blunder.’

In the five-point demands put forth by the alliance includes reviewing  the formation of government, forging agreement on the basic principles of the new constitution prior to election through the roundtable talks, among others.
