Local Ram Bahadur Chaudhari, 40, was killed on Saturday night, after police head constable Pravesh Mahato, the security guard of former MP Jagdish Shah, opened fire on him outside Shah’s residence in Shambunath-8.[break]
The irate family members and relatives of the deceased are demonstrating near the traffic police office in Shambhunath, burning tyres on the road to obstruct vehicular movement.
They have demanded the arrest of Shah, who they said had incited his body guard to attack, and have demanded due compensation to the victim’s family members.
Mahato pulled out his pistol and open fired on Chaudhari, after the latter had a hot exchange with the former MP, during an assembly called to settle a minor dispute, eyewitnesses informed.
Chaudhari, who suffered a severe bullet wound on his chest due to the firing, died on the spot
Following the shooting, the angry locals took Mahato under control and thrashed him black and blue. He is currently receiving treatment at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
Security has been beefed up in the area considering possible escalation of violence. Chaudhari’s body has been sent to Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Rajbiraj.
