Key exports include timur (Nepali pepper), Kaulo, Satuwa, cinnamon, Bojho and Amala (Indian gooseberry). About 85 percent of herbs exported through Nepalgunj go to India, said Tanka Sharma, chairperson of the Association of Herbs Entrepreneurs.
Sharma added that herb exports via Nepalgunj have steadily increased in recent years. However, he noted challenges in mountainous districts, where obtaining permission to collect and export herbs from district headquarters remains difficult.
